Uniting Cavy lovers through community and education
The Independent Cavy Clubs in New Zealand are a group of clubs that hold shows for guinea pig enthusiasts. These clubs operate under the rules and standards of the New Zealand Cavy Judges Association and are independent from the newly-formed New Zealand Cavy Council. There are seven clubs in the group:
Our Clubs
Each club has its own unique character and style, but all share a passion for promoting the welfare and enjoyment of guinea pigs. The New Zealand Cavy Club, for example, is one of the oldest cavy clubs in the country, with a history dating back to 1930. The North Canterbury Guinea Pig Club, on the other hand, is a newer club, having been founded in 2018, but is already well-established and popular.
The Northern Rabbit & Guinea Pig Club is unique in that it focuses on both rabbits and guinea pigs, while the Taranaki Cavy Group has a strong emphasis on education, with a focus on teaching members about guinea pig care, breeding, and genetics. NZ Unique and Rare Guinea Pigs is dedicated to promoting and breeding uncommon guinea pig breeds, while the Hamilton & Waikato Areas Club focuses on fostering a sense of community among guinea pig enthusiasts in the region. Finally, the Capital Cavy Club is based in Wellington and is committed to promoting the welfare of guinea pigs through education and advocacy.
Despite their differences, all of the Independent Cavy Clubs share a commitment to promoting the welfare and enjoyment of guinea pigs through shows, education, and community-building. Their website serves as a hub for information about upcoming shows, as well as resources and information for guinea pig enthusiasts.
